With summer time around the corner, we thought it’d be a good idea to help you get ready for the humid weather by giving you seven tips for natural skin care.

When you do one or more of the suggestions below, you can lessen your chances of being sunburned, in addition to helping your skin keep its natural balance during summer’s changing temperatures.

1. Drink plenty of water

Increased heat means our bodies work extra hard, causing us to lose more of our natural water supply. Lack of water leads to dehydration, which can result in dizziness, headaches, and even fainting!

One of the best things you can do this summer is drink eight 8-ounce glasses of filtered water every day. This will help your body maintain its moisture balance, so your skin and body detoxifies normally.

As a side note, if you drink coffee or tea, double or triple your daily water intake.

2. Wear the proper hat

A regular baseball cap will suffice mostly year around, but in the summer weather, you need a hat that protects you from any direction. This is why we recommend using a full brim hat, like the one in the picture on the right, for full head and body coverage.

3. Eat plenty of melons

Melons, such as cantaloupes, are the perfect fruits for maintaining healthy skin in the summer. Not only are melons sweet and delicious, they are rich in antioxidants and hydrate your skin.

4. Eat plenty of greens

The summer heat causes dryness, which means we start to look dull if we don’t treat ourselves and our skin properly. The solution to keeping a nice looking skin tone is eating plenty of vitamins A and C, commonly found in leafy greens. Loading up on broccoli, spinach, and even sweet potatoes ensures your skin has the nutrients necessary to have balanced skin.

5. Wear the right clothing

To reflect the sun, instead of attract it, make it a habit to wear lighter colors in the summer. Additionally, if you are prone to getting skin irritation, like body ache, avoid wearing nylon and lycra. These two materials keep moisture and heat from escaping from your skin, which traps bacteria and oil. The better clothing option for the summer is loose-fitting cotton.

6. Snack on the right foods

Ditch the snacks that are fried, sugary, and salty. Also, avoid processed foods that make your skin shallow and prone to inflammation.

When you need a healthy summer snack, look anything with olive or flaxseed oils, nuts, seeds, and fresh berries. Vitamin C-rich foods that raise your immunity, like oranges, are always a good option for preventing unwanted bacteria.
