Fit wellness into your day, and you’ll find that prioritizing your own health is possible even when your to-do list seems never-ending.

It’s easy for you to get stuck in a cycle, where all you do is go from work to your house. You get stressed out and eat stuff that you shouldn’t. You watch TV, even when you know you should be tackling your to-do list or exercising.

Wellness doesn’t have to be all consuming. You can focus on fitness and accomplish everything else that you need to. Here are some strategies you can utilize to fit wellness into your day, without very much effort.

Think small.

If it seems a ginormous task to incorporate 30 minutes of activity into your daily life, focus on small 5-to-10 minute activities that you can complete. After all, 30 minutes of activity 5 days a week is only 150 minutes.

This is the amount of activity that doctors and wellness professionals recommend to receive the greatest health impacts. However, you do not need to complete all 150 minutes at once. Ten, 15-minute sessions or fifteen, 10-minute sessions will work.

Take a walk during a small sliver of your lunch break or take the stairs every time you can. Each of these little moves adds up to more minutes of fitness.

Make wellness your transition activity. 

You already have transition activities built in to your day. When you wake up, you brush your teeth. When you arrive at work, you drink coffee. If for some reason you wake up and you can’t brush your teeth, something feels off.

Develop new transition activities that remind you about your health goals. Maybe you promise to do 50 pushups every night after dinner or you go to the gym on your way home from the office. Soon these habits become automatic because it just feels right.

Do one thing for you every day.

Wellness isn’t limited to fitness. It’s also important to take care of your own personal needs and to relax. Relaxation is paramount in controlling stress levels and for cardiovascular health.

One way to accomplish this is to try to do one thing for yourself every single day. It doesn’t even have to be directly health-related.

Relax in the bathtub or read a book for 15 minutes. Incorporating these activities into your daily routine will make you feel like you have more time. Plus, taking time out of your hectic day for yourself is important for your health. 

Multitask with others.

It’s important to be social with your friends and family members. The next time you plan to spend time with them, do something healthy.

If you want to talk with your children, why not take a walk with them as you hear about their day? If you want to meet a friend for lunch, choose a healthy fresh salad place you would both enjoy. 

Make an appointment. 

It’s very easy to forget to make a health-related appointment for yourself when you have so many other things to focus on. Setting up an appointment makes a commitment to yourself that you’re less likely to cancel.

Schedule an appointment for a massage or enroll in an exercise class. This strategy is perfect for individuals with extremely busy schedules who are prone to procrastinate.
